Apple Re-imagines iPad Pro – with a Trackpad & new Macbook Air

Apple announced today not 1 but 2 products, the new iPad Pro and Macbook Air.

Let’s dive in.

iPad Pro with a twist

So the big news here is of course the iPad Pro, you will shortly know why. Apple says it is the most advanced iPad Pro than most of the Windows PCs available in the market today. Equipped with A12Z Bionic Chip, ultra wide camera, studio quality mics and LiDAR Scanner that delivers depth sensing capabilities.

The twist here however is, with the latest iPadOS 13.4, Apple is bringing Trackpad support right into the iPad. Let me say that again. Apple is bringing Trackpad support right into the iPad.

New iPad Pro with a Trackpad support

I personally feel iPad Pro is slowly inching towards Surface Pro territory by promoting that it is not only a consumption device (which has been the impression for a lot of people) but also a productivity. With the new Magic Keyboard ($300 for 11 and $349 for 12.9″) iPad Pro can magnetically get attached to the base of the add-on module. Apple says the new keyboard offers a “floating design with smooth angle alignment”. See the video below to get the idea.

The starting price for the iPad Pro 11″ Wifi model is $799 and $949 for Wifi + Cellular.

Macbook Air

Starting at $999, the new Macbook Air comes with updated internals with faster performance, new magic keyboard and twice the storage at 258GB.

Apple writes,

The new MacBook Air delivers up to two times faster CPU performance2 and up to 80 percent faster graphics performance,3 letting customers breeze through daily activities and play more games. Now starting with 256GB of storage, MacBook Air allows customers to store even more movies, photos and files. With its brilliant 13-inch Retina display for vivid images and sharp text, Touch ID for easy login and secure online purchases, spacious trackpad, and all-day battery life combined with the power of macOS Catalina, it’s the best MacBook Air ever made.

Apple received a lot of backlash with previous generation butterfly keyboard design which took them several years to rectify. Apple is finally bringing Magic keyboard design that first came with 16″ Macbook Pro into the new Macbook Air. It comes with 1mm of key travel and inverted T arrow arrangements.

The new Macbook Air comes with Intel’s 10th gen CPU with up to 1.2Ghz quad-core Core i7 processor. New Macbook Air comes with double the storage of 256GB in their entry level model and goes up to 2TB SSD storage, double the previous maximum storage.

Some of the additional features include:

  • A 3 mic array for more clear voice capture for FaceTime calls.
  • The industry best force tough trackpad.
  • Thunderbolt 3 ports for data transfer, charging and video output in a single connector.
  • Support for up to a 6K external display, a first in the Macbook Air
  • Advanced stereo speakers for immersive sound.

The new Macbook Air will be available in the United States starting this week.
